We proceeded on...

One of the most frequently repeated phrases in "The Journals of Lewis and Clark" is "We proceeded on". In the course of American history, the expedition of Lewis and Clark has always been one of my favorite topics, and William Clark is one of my original heroes. The Lewis and Clark Bicycle Trail is more than a "must ride" destination for me. It is a calling, and one of the main reasons I invested in my Bianchi Volpe.

But there is another reason for "proceeding on" right now, and it has somethng to do with the Lewis, Clark and the American West, and something to do with Karelia. I used to figure that every pedal stroke I take is one step closer to going back to Petrozavodsk. Every ride I took would get me in better shape to go back to Russia. Now I realize, the journey may be as important as the final destination. As I am updating this in March, 2007, I have already put almost 50 miles on the bike. It may not sound like a lot, but I am basically starting over from scratch (plus I had a stomach bug for a few days.) and I am building my miles up.

Every time I turn those pedals, I am that much closer to wherever it is that God wants me to go.

Proceeding on...
